The first day of Lent is known as Ash Wednesday for Christians worldwide. It is the beginning of the Lenten fast. The Lenten fast lasts for 40 days (excluding Sundays) and ends on Holy Saturday, which is the day before Easter Sunday.

Is Carnival / Ash Wednesday a Public Holiday?

While Carnival / Ash Wednesday is not a public holiday, it is categorized as a silent day (stiller Tag) in all or part of Germany. In some states, special restrictions may apply for certain types of activities, such as concerts or dance events. Depending on the state, businesses may follow normal or restricted opening hours, or they may be closed for the day.

Ash is an important symbol of Ash Wednesday in many Christian churches.
